The Christmas Star of Bethlehem

Who Were the Magi?

The Wicki error about Christmas

"In part, the Christmas celebration was created by the early Church in order to entice pagan Romans to convert to Christianity without losing their own winter celebrations."

Christmas

is the same as the atheist error about Christmas

"The Roman celebration of the sun god's rebirth was still held on December 25th. However, due to imperfections in the Julian calendar, the actual Winter Solstice had drifted to December 21st."

The Winter Solstice & Christmas

and the Jehovah's Witness error about Christmas.

"Joe: December 25 is the date of the winter solstice and Christmas originated at a time when the cult of the sun was strong at Rome."

Is Christmas Pagan?

It was the magi who decided that Christ was to be born on December 25, 7BC, the date of the conjunction between Jupiter and Saturn.

Who Were the Magi?

Herod dared do nothing to them even though he knew that in bringing their kingly gifts to the child Jesus they were in effect setting him up as a rival to the House of Herod and Rome.

Who Were the Magi?

The magi decided this based on their knowledge of Astrology which was astronomy mixed with pagan ideas.

Who Were the Magi?

The magi were powerful king makers in their own land, the Parthian empire. The birth of a god-King of the Jews was also based on the book of Daniel, who was a magi.

"In Jerusalem, the sudden appearance of the Magi, probably traveling in force with all imaginable oriental pomp and accompanied by an adequate cavalry escort to insure their safe penetration of Roman territory, certainly alarmed Herod and the populace of Jerusalem.

It would seem as if these Magi were attempting to perpetrate a border incident which could bring swift reprisal from Parthian armies. Their request of Herod regarding the one who "has been born King of the Jews" (7) was a calculated insult to him, a non--Jew (8) who had contrived and bribed his way into that office."

Who Were the Magi?

The Christmas Star of Bethlehem

The gospel of Matthew states:

"Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men."

Hence, this incident happened in the year 5 BC. Herod died in the year 4 BC which would have been 3 years after the Saturn - Jupiter conjunction. That would have given Jesus and Mary a whole year to escape to Egypt and return.

Matthew|2:16 Places Massacre of the Innocents in the year 5 BC

"But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life."

Matthew|2:19-20

Rev. James D. Kennedy on the Gospel in the Stars

"The book of Job, which is thought by many to be the oldest book of the Bible, goes back to approximately 2150 B.C., which is 650 years before Moses came upon the scene to write the Pentateuch; over 1,100 years before Homer wrote the Odyssey and the Illiad; and 1,500 years before Thales, the first of the philosophers, was born. In chapter 38, God finally breaks in and speaks to Job and to his false comforters.

As He is questioning Job, showing him and his companions their ignorance, God says to them: "Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?" (Job 38:31,32).

We see here reference to the constellations of Orion and Pleiades, and the star Arcturus. Also in the book of Job there is reference to Cetus, the Sea Monster, and to Draco, the Great Dragon.

I would call your attention to Job 38:32a: "Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season?" Mazzaroth is a Hebrew word which means "The Constellations of the Zodiac." In what may be the oldest book in all of human history, we find that the constellations of the zodiac were already clearly known and understood ....Having made it clear that the Bible expressly, explicitly, and repeatedly condemns what is now known as astrology, the fact remains that there was a God-given Gospel [universally acknowledged original revelation] in the stars which lays beyond and behind that which has now been corrupted. "

The Real Meaning Of The Zodiac

While no one probably interpreted the Zodiac in the way that Kennedy did thousands of years ago, except perhaps the magi, it is clear that the Christmas date of December 25 is soundly grounded in the bible and suggests that those who invoke the pagan Winter solstice explanation of the date of Christmas do so because of a bias against Christ and Christianity as well as history and astronomy.

This is how the night sky appeared in Bethlehem on December 25, 7 BC. Note the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn.

The reason why Christ's birth day is on the 25 th of December is because there was a conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter on the 25th of December in the year 7 BC (the true birth date of Christ - our calendar is off by 7 years). The conjunction can bee seen using the Skyglobe astronomy program which gives the position of the stars, planets, and constellations at any point in history.

This was the "star of Bethlehem", the conjunction which the Magi interpreted to mean a great new King would be born. We know that this is correct because Joseph and Mary fled to Egypt across the wilderness of the Sinai.

And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

Revelation 12:6

This is a little less than 3 and 1/2 years.

Herod died in 4 BC.

7 BC - 4 BC = 3 years.

When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

Matthew 2:14

And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

Matthew 2:15

But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

Matthew 2:20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.

Matthew 2:20

The Magi were Zoroastrian priests and astrologers but they probably got the idea from the book of Daniel since Daniel was himself a chief Magi. The idea that the Messiah was the son of God and hence equal to God is taken from the book of Isaiah.

The approximate year of his birth is given by the book of Daniel. But the exact date must have come from the pagan idea that Saturn was the father of Jupiter and Jupiter was both the King of the gods and the Father of the gods. Even today, modern Christian theologians have reinterpreted the ancient pagan zodiac in Christian terms.

The Protoevangelium and the Virgin Birth of Christ

"In the chronologies of Christ we read how Abraham begot Isaac, who begot Jacob, who begot so and so, who begot David, who begot so and so, and so and so - one man after another, until we finally read, "Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom [feminine pronoun] was born Jesus, who is called Christ" (Matthew 1:16).

And so, in the long history of the human race there is this single exception of Christ, the only one not begotten by man, but the seed of the woman, whose Father was God. It was even written large by God in the stars. All twelve signs of the Zodiac are taken from Genesis 3:15 - the Protoevangelium.

They are all pictures of the seed of the woman coming from Virgo, the virgin, who will destroy the head of the serpent, as a scorpion, as a dragon - all slain by the great heroes. Taken in order they tell the glorious story of Christ. Job told us that the stars would point us to Christ over 4,000 years ago in Job 38:32 with ,

"Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth [Zodiac] in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?" Just check out the historical names and meanings of the 12 Signs of the Zodiac.

We have:

Virgo The Seed of the Woman - Christ the Incarnate Son
Libra The Required Price Paid - Christ the Redeemer
Scorpio The Mortal Conflict - Christ the Sufferer
Sagittarius The Final Triumph - Christ the Conqueror
Capricornus Life out of Death - Christ the Sacrifice
Aquarius Blessing Out of Victory - Christ the Living Water
Pisces Deliverance Out of Bondage - Christ the Liberator
Aries Glory Out of Humiliation - Christ the Crowned Lamb
Taurus His Glorious Coming - Christ the Judge
Gemini His Rule on Earth - Christ the King
Cancer His Possessions Held Secure - Christ the Protector
Leo His Enemies Destroyed - Christ the Victor

Remarkably, the heavens indeed declare the glory of God and the firmament showeth His handiwork."

Why I Believe in the Virgin Birth

Might God have used the stars as an eternal sign to man of His salvation plan?

We Three Kings

"We three kings of Orient are Bearing gifts we traverse afar Field and fountain, moor and mountain Following yonder star

O Star of wonder, star of night Star with royal beauty bright Westward leading, still proceeding Guide us to thy Perfect Light

Born a King on Bethlehem's plain Gold I bring to crown Him again King forever, ceasing never Over us all to rein

O Star of wonder, star of night Star with royal beauty bright Westward leading, still proceeding Guide us to Thy perfect light

Frankincense to offer have I Incense owns a Deity nigh Pray'r and praising, all men raising Worship Him, God most high

O Star of wonder, star of night Star with royal beauty bright Westward leading, still proceeding Guide us to Thy perfect light

Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume Breathes of life of gathering gloom Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying Sealed in the stone-cold tomb

O Star of wonder, star of night Star with royal beauty bright Westward leading, still proceeding Guide us to Thy perfect light

Glorious now behold Him arise King and God and Sacrifice Alleluia, Alleluia Earth to heav'n replies

O Star of wonder, star of night Star with royal beauty bright Westward leading, still proceeding Guide us to Thy perfect light"
